School of Education to Host Book Fair

11/02/20

The School of Education is hosting a Scholastic Book Fair to raise money for its emergency student fund.

The book fair will be held in Brown Hall room 104 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays between Nov. 3 and Nov. 13.

The School of Education established the emergency GAP fund to help teacher candidates pay for some of the additional expenses required to become certified teachers. The money raised from the book fair will help teacher candidates pay for outside expenses such as liability insurance, exams and a required portfolio service.

Dr. Jacquelyn Mesco, associate professor of education, says the book fair is symbolic of the importance of reading in learning.

“Reading is a key part of learning,” Mesco said. “A book fair will not only help families purchase books but will also allow teacher candidates to begin building their classroom libraries.”

The book fair will operate under COVID-19 guidelines, practicing social distancing, providing hand sanitizer and wiping down surfaces several times a day.

All students and faculty are encouraged to visit the book fair. Purchases made will directly help teacher candidates in Dalton State’s education program and help empower the next generation of educators.
