Spotlight Ashley Fann

Name: Ashley Fann

Age: 21

Hometown: Rossville, GA

High school: Ringgold High School

Major: English

Expected graduation date: Spring 2021

Why did you choose Dalton State? Fresh out of high school, Dalton State offered me a foundation for the rest of my future aspirations, like grad school.

What does it mean to you to be part of the Roadrunner Nation? Being a part of Roadrunner Nation means growth to me. My time as a Roadrunner has helped me grow academically, professionally and personally. A truly transformational experience!

What do you plan to do after graduation? After graduation, I plan to pursue a master's degree in rhetoric and writing. I am also looking into degrees in higher education administration. I would love to work at Dalton State while going through grad school.

Who is/was your favorite professor and why? I cannot choose only one, but one professor who is sentimental to me is Kelly Mahoney. She was my first college professor, and I had the honor to serve as her supplemental instructor last spring.

What activities are you involved in on campus? I am currently serving as the director of the Peer Education Leadership Team and president of Sigma Tau Delta. I am also participating in the Emerging Leaders program.

What are some of your favorite activities in and around Dalton? A couple of recommendations I have are Native Kitchen, Oki and Buff City Soap. Panera is also a reliable regular!

Where is your favorite study spot? I love the Dean of Student’s Office. If I am not in the Overflow Room, I’m probably in an empty classroom in the Liberal Arts building.

What is the last book you read? The last book I read, outside of coursework, was the Young Buck’s Killing the Business: From Backyards to Big Leagues.

If you had a theme song, what would it be? I would have to have a wrestling theme created for myself!

Favorite line from a movie? Probably something from John Wick, but a specific one does not come to mind.

What do you feel most proud of? Finally, not being nervous to speak in front of small and large groups.

If you won the lottery, what would you do? I would try to plan out how to spend it after taxes. Improve whatever house and car I have and then save the rest for trips to wrestling shows.

What is a skill you’d like to learn and why? Aside from learning to wrestle, I would like to learn how to teach people to be leaders.

What cheers you up? Watching wrestling!

What is your favorite book? I’m bad at picking favorites, but two of my top books are Hollow Kingdom by Kira Jane Buxton and A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness.

Who would play you in the movie version of your life?  Right now, I’m thinking Britt Baker from AEW. I would be very curious to know what my friends would say about this one.

What is your favorite app? My mom sends me funny things on Instagram, so probably that one.

As a Roadrunner, what does it mean to Run Boldly? Run Boldly means to use the time you spend at Dalton State to take all opportunities to grow and learn, even if they are scary or challenging to you. Run Boldly means finding your footing on campus and beyond.
