Why did you choose Dalton State? When I decided to come back to college I began asking teacher friends about which colleges’ teacher education programs were highly thought of. Dalton State was incredibly popular, as well as highly thought of. My decision was made!
What do you plan to do after graduation? I would love nothing more than to move to Savannah and obtain a teaching position at Charles Ellis Montessori School. I recently had the pleasure of visiting this fantastic school where I fell love with their teaching methods, students, and faculty.
Who is/was your favorite professor and why? Dr. Lovey Mesco is, by far, my favorite professor. She truly loves her students and goes way above and far beyond to teach, guide, and assist us. She’s amazing.
What activities are you involved in on campus? In the past few years I have had the honor of getting to serve Dalton State as an orientation leader, Student Conduct Board Member, SGA Senator, writer for The Roadrunner, student worker for Student Life, and student worker for the Dalton State Foundation. Currently, I am President of Kappa Delta Pi. KDP is the International Honor’s Society for Education Majors.
What are some of your biggest achievements or accomplishments at Dalton State? My biggest accomplishment while being a student at Dalton State is gaining confidence. I am no longer the closed-off, insecure, withdrawn person I used to be. Because of the acceptance and love I have been shown as a student here, I now walk in confidence daily. I will forever be grateful for that.
What is your best memory so far as part of the Roadrunner Nation? My most favorite memory so far as part of the Roadrunner Nation is the night we welcomed our fantastic championship winning basketball team back to campus! It felt great to be uniting with other students, faculty, staff, and members of the community to let our guys know just how much we support, appreciate, and love them.
What is the last book you read? Flora and Ulysses by Kate DiCamillo
What’s on your iPad? Lots and lots of music! Everything from oldies to classical to the 80’s/90’s to Pop and Hip Hop.
Favorite comfort food? Chicken parmesan over pasta and salad from Olive Garden with a glass of moscato

Favorite line from a movie? “Dad! Nancy! It’s bad! It’s so bad! There’s blood everywhere! The bunk beds were a terrible idea! Why’d you let us do that?! It’s so bad!” –Step Brothers
If you could only keep five possessions, what would they be?
1-My collection of books for my future classroom library
2-The folded American flag presented to my Mom, sister, and me at my Dad’s funeral.
3 & 4-My two Dachshunds- Sofie and Zoe
5-My family photo album collection.
If you won the lottery, what would you do? I would start a non-profit shelter for victims of domestic violence and a domestic violence awareness program. I would pay off my student loans as well as mine and my husband’s debt, build my family a large house that would have plenty of room for my husband and me to become foster parents and provide a home for several children, fund a sweet friend of mine with the money to open her dream bakery, and build a Montessori school in Dalton that Dr. Lovey Mesco would run.
What is a skill you’d like to learn and why? I would love to learn to write children’s books. After graduating from Dalton State, I plan to take a course or two on how to write children’s books.
Who would play you in the movie version of your life? I would love for Melissa McCarthy to play me in the movie version of my life. Our humor is similar and she embodies the level of confidence I aim to achieve.
If you could go back in history, who would you like to meet? If I could go back in history to meet someone it would definitely be a toss-up between Gandhi and Maria Montessori. They both pursued peace for the world which I long for.
What does it mean to you to be part of the Roadrunner Nation? Being a part of the Roadrunner Nation means being accepted and belonging to something great. I have received so much love and support from so many people at Dalton State. When asked, “Why Dalton State?” I often respond by simply saying, “Because I fit here!” Until coming back to Dalton State in 2012, I couldn’t say I knew what it felt like to truly “belong” or “fit” somewhere. I have been welcomed and encouraged by faculty, staff, and students all over Dalton State. I have made friends I know I will have for years and years to come. In a nutshell, being a part of the Roadrunner Nation means having a second family. Thank you Dalton State faculty, staff, and students!
