Dalton State’s Alpha Omicron Pi Chapter Honored

Dalton State’s chapter of Alpha Omicron Pi, Lambda Delta, was recently recognized in several areas during the fraternity’s Biennial Convention in Los Angeles, Calif.

Recognition is awarded to chapters for exceeding expectations of the fraternity in established Standards of Excellence. Lambda Delta rose to the top in several categories, including Excellence in Communications, Excellence in Community Service, and Honorable Mentions for Excellence in Membership Recruitment and Excellence in Philanthropy.

“After working with these women over the last few years to establish a sorority on campus, I could not be more proud of their accomplishments,” said Amber Lesicko, assistant director of Student Life at Dalton State. “This was such an honor for this chapter as they have only been a chartered organization for one year. These wonderful ladies have worked extremely hard for excellence as a chapter of AOII. I am happy that they represented Dalton State so well.”

Lambda Delta was chartered April 12, 2014 and currently has 56 members.

“I’m incredibly proud of how far our chapter has come in just over a year,” said Christian Cunningham, president of the Lambda Delta chapter of AOII. “It’s very rare that a new chapter, such as ours, receives such high levels of recognition. We are thrilled. Our hard work in every area of our chapter’s development has paid off.”

AOII was founded in 1897 at Barnard College of Columbia University in New York City. There are more than 166,000 initiated members in 206 collegiate chapters and 161 alumnae chapters across the United States and Canada. AOII is an international women’s fraternity, promoting friendship for a lifetime, inspiring academic excellence and lifelong learning, and developing leadership skills through service to the fraternity and community.
