EPA Chemist Speaks at Dalton State

04/28/17

Dr. Ann Richard, a computational chemist researcher with the Environmental Protection Agency, spent several hours at Dalton State recently telling industry leaders and science students about her work with the EPA.

Richard showed Dalton State environmental chemistry students how to utilize different areas of the EPA website to research different chemicals and present those findings as a way of introducing students to environmental toxicology. She also spoke with faculty and students about her career, lessons learned, problems faced with research, and the many projects she has worked on.

Richards also spoke to area industry leaders at a Floor 360’s Alliance for Innovation and Sustainability luncheon. They learned of the EPA’s National Center Computational Toxicology programs, Tox21 and ToxCast, and the pivotal role chemistry and cheminformatics are playing in the generation, interpretation, and dissemination of data.
