Dalton State Welcomes New Faculty

Dalton State welcomes 17 new faculty members to campus this fall.

Five faculty members join the Wright School of Business.

Tommy Barge, a lecturer of management, joins Dalton State after 25 years in senior leadership at Beaulieu. He has a master’s degree in agricultural economics from Auburn University.

Dr. Carl Gabrini, an assistant professor of accounting, earned a doctorate in public administration from Florida State University. He previously taught at the Turner College of Business at Columbus State University.

Jim Gordon, an instructor of supply chain management, has taught part-time at Dalton State but now begins full-time. He holds a master’s degree in business accounting from the University of Georgia and previously worked in management and engineering for Shaw Industries for more than 20 years. Also moving from part-time to full-time is Carolina Hammontree, an instructor of management. She has a master’s degree of business administration from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and is currently pursuing her doctorate degree.

Dr. Jie “Kevin” Yan, who has a master’s degree and doctorate in information systems from Baylor University, joins the faculty as an assistant professor of management information systems.

 Faculty members joining the School of Liberal Arts are Dr. Susan Eastman, Matthew LeHew, Dr. Adam Sprague, and Dr. Jeff Stanley.

Eastman and Sprague are both assistant professors of English. Eastman earned a master’s degree and doctorate from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Sprague has a doctorate from Bowling Green State University.

LeHew, an assistant professor of communication, has a master’s degree in communication from Florida State and a graduate certification in public health from Georgia State University. He’s currently working on his dissertation for his doctorate in communication from Georgia State. Previously, he taught at Shorter University.

Stanley is an assistant professor of history. He earned his master’s degree and doctorate in history from the University of Kentucky.

Dr. Michael Joseph joins the School of Science, Technology, and Mathematics as an assistant professor of mathematics. He holds a master’s degree and doctorate in mathematics from the University of Connecticut.

Dr. Sharlonne Smith and Dr. Harriet Strahlman are joining the faculty in the School of Education. Smith, who earned a doctorate in middle grades education from the University of Georgia, is an assistant professor of education. Previously, she was at Inman Middle School in Atlanta. Strahlman, a lecturer in education, holds an educational specialist degree in curriculum and instruction and a doctorate in exceptional learning, literacy from Tennessee Technological University.  

Five join the faculty in the School of Health Professions.

Omin Chandler, an assistant professor of nursing, holds a master’s degree in nursing from Walden School of Nursing. She previously worked at Floyd Medical Center in Rome. Jennifer Hooker, who has a master’s degree in nursing from the University of Phoenix, is an assistant professor of practical nursing. Hooker is an alumna of Dalton State’s LPN program.

Jamie Parker, an assistant professor of licensed practical nursing, previously worked as a part-time clinical instructor in the College’s associate of nursing program. She holds a master’s degree in nursing health systems leadership from the University of West Georgia. She previously worked at Cartersville Medical Center.

Also making the move from part-time to full-time is Holly Miller, an assistant professor of radiologic technology. She has a bachelor’s degree in radiologic sciences from Prima Medical Institute. She graduated from Dalton State’s radiologic technology program in 2009 and previously worked at Dalton Family Practice.

Stephanie Watkins, a lecturer and clinical coordinator of the respiratory therapy program, earned a bachelor’s degree in respiratory therapy from Dalton State. She is pursuing her master’s degree in respiratory therapy. She previously worked at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga.
