Dalton State Receives Scholarship from Residents of Royal Oaks

10/26/17

Dalton State College students have some new donors behind them thanks to a series of recent gifts from residents of the Royal Oaks Retirement Community. Various residents of the local facility fund the College’s new “Residents of Royal Oaks Scholarship.”

“This is one of the most unique gifts I’ve seen in my 14 years here,” said Dalton State Foundation Director David Elrod. “Residents of Royal Oaks began talking with us about their interest in scholarships for Dalton State students, and several of them began making gifts toward the fund last year. We awarded the first Residents of Royal Oaks Scholarship in this academic year, and we will award another one next year.”

The scholarship supports Dalton State students who are staff members at the retirement community. Recipients must be in good academic standing and making progress toward graduation.

“Many of the residents of Royal Oaks are long-time boosters and friends of Dalton State,” Elrod said. “That they have come together in this unique show of support for scholarships on campus is just one more manifestation of their enthusiasm for the good things that go on here.”

“While more than half of our students seek need-based financial aid in order to enroll at Dalton State, scholarships like those provided by our friends at Royal Oaks help ensure that resources are in place for hard-working and deserving students,” he said. “We are proud of this vision and support for our students, and we hope this is the beginning of a new partnership between Dalton State and Royal Oaks that lasts for many years to come.”
