Wright School of Business Discusses Big Data

11/02/17

As access to Big Data grows, more companies in Northwest Georgia will be able to use the information to their benefit. It’s a concept explored in the latest edition of Dalton State’s Wright School of Business’ Business Analytics, a semi-annual publication from the Center for Economic Research and Entrepreneurship.

“As Big Data becomes more commonly available, it will be more important than ever for businesses in Northwest Georgia to be able to access and use that data to gain meaningful insights into knowledge that can be translated into actionable business strategies,” said Dr. Garen Evans, an assistant professor of economics and editor of Business Analytics. “In this edition we have explored some of the issues associated with Big Data, including what it is, and how it is affecting supply chains, small governmental organizations, and business operations today, among other topics.”

One article explores how Dalton State is preparing students for challenges in a data-driven workplace, while another is about how small governmental organizations can utilize Big Data. Other articles explain the impact of Big Data on presidential elections, vendor-managed inventory, the College’s economic impact, and where students and graduates of the Wright School of Business are succeeding.

Contributors are faculty in the School of Business, as well as alumni and current students. Each issue explores recent business trends in the Northwest Georgia region. The Wright School of Business is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, a designation earned by less than 5 percent of the world’s business schools.
