ESOL Endorsement

An ESOL endorsement prepares future teachers to work with English learners in the classroom or it can prepare future teachers to work as ESOL teachers.

In order to be admitted into the ESOL endorsement, teacher candidates must first be admitted into the SoE. Thus, the admission requirements are the same for the ESOL Endorsement as they are for secondary and ECE admission.  The ESOL endorsement is embedded into the ECE Program with the addition of one ESOL course, field hours, and a passing ESOL portfolio. It can be added onto the secondary education coursework by taking three additional courses, field hours, and a passing portfolio.  Below, you will find the criteria for admission into both the ECE and secondary programs.

Courses offered

ESOL 4240: Appl Ling for Teachers of ESOL  -- embedded into elementary -- extra for secondary
ESOL 4241: Methods of Teaching ESOL -- embedded into elementary -- extra for secondary
ESOL 4242: Culture and Education -- extra for elementary -- extra for secondary
