Graduate School Transition

As you consider further study for graduate degrees in business, you have two main choices (1) the MBA (Master of Business Administration) where you “master” all the functional areas of business you have studies in the undergraduate degree but go deeper into cases, projects, and team-based learning or the (2) MAcc (Masters of Accountancy) which provides the additional 30 hours, and at the graduate level, needed to sit for your Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam and licensure.  Some MBA programs allow a functional area specialization (supply chain management, data analytics, fintech) while others do not have a choice of electives.  The idea behind the MBA is to understand all the areas of business at a higher and deeper level so a specialization is not always necessary.

Because you have an undergraduate degree from an AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) accredited institution, your path to graduate school should be faster and easier and you won’t have to take any additional courses before you start the degree.  And, most of our partners listed here waive the application fee and waive the GMAT/GRE graduate entrance exams (as long as you have a specific GPA in your undergraduate studies at Dalton State College.

Be sure to only choose an AACSB accreditated master’s program (or doctorate).

Some MBA programs are fully on-line but if your schedule allows a hybrid or fully-face-to-face option, this is a great way to meet new friends, share business viewpoints, and potentially find business partners and investors for your start-up or other ventures.

If you aren’t already working in your career job, consider working as a graduate assistant (GA) during your MBA program.  You’ll typically have your tuition waived and receive a stipend (salary) for your work which is likely to be with business professors helping with teaching and grading or even research tasks.  It’s a great way to learn about the life of a business professor (which you too may want to consider).

Once you have your graduate degree, let us know at DSC so we can update our WSOB alumni database.  Also consider joining us as a part-time faculty member in the WSOB. Most of our business professionals who teach part-time were once DSC WSOB undergrads.  You’ll also have access to our best WSOB students to help fill career opening and internships at your company too!
