WHAT IS OUTREACH?

Outreach programs include awareness and education campaigns for the campus community surrounding mental health and social justice issues. Counselors are often invited to classrooms to talk about services offered on campus or to educate groups on a specific mental health related topics. If your class, department, or campus organization would like to collaborate on outreach, please call us to set up a time to talk.

Outreach activities have included:

  • Clothesline Project for sexual assault and domestic violence awareness
  • Suicide prevention education
  • Stress management workshops and activities
  • Film screenings and discussions
  • Screenings for depression, eating disorders, and alcohol abuse

Please fill out the Outreach Request Form if you'd like to have us collaborate on an event.

Mental Health First AID (MHFA)

The counseling center has a certified Mental Health First Aid trainer who can provide an 8 hour course to groups of people interested in learning how to support and advocate for others who may be experiencing a mental health problem. It will teach participants about mental health problems in the United States, common diagnoses and how to respond in a helpful way when someone may need support. Please fill out the Outreach Request Form if you'd like to schedule a MHFA training. Some additional costs are associated with this outreach.

Question, Persuade, REFER (QPR)

This is a brief, informative training that demystifies the phenomenon of suicide, helps people understand potential warning signs of suicide and effective strategies to assist someone in crisis. Please fill out the Outreach Request Form if you'd like to schedule a QPR training. Some additional costs are associated with this outreach. Sign up for one of the upcoming QPR Trainings.
