Even though instruction is now being provided remotely, Roberts Library is continuing to assist students with resources and is introducing a new program to help with the transition.
The new program, Personal Librarian, will direct students toward a specific librarian at Roberts Library based on their major and needs.
“We want to establish a way for students to feel like they have a point person, especially if they’re not experienced library users,” Librarian Amy Burger said.
Though students can no longer physically go to the library, this program will make it easier for students to find the resources they specifically need. A list has been composed for students detailing which librarians are assigned to each area of study:
Health Professions - Amy Burger (firstname.lastname@example.org)
Business - Melissa Whitesell (email@example.com)
STEM - Barbara Jones (firstname.lastname@example.org)
Liberal Arts - Lee Ann Cline (email@example.com)
Education - Laura Tolliver (firstname.lastname@example.org)
Along with Personal Librarian, the library is also providing access to many of its resources online. The library has an extensive collection of ebooks and the GALILEO system is still available for students to use in finding online articles and journals. Any book not available in Roberts Library can be requested through its interlibrary loan system. The library is still accepting the return of books and other materials through its book drops. There are two book drops on campus with one outside the library’s front entrance and another in front of Westcott Hall.
The library is continuing to explore how to help students and will soon be posting more information on its webpage. Currently, instructional librarians are planning to upload videos and handouts to the library’s webpage showing how to use certain resources remotely.
“Library employees are dedicated to meeting the needs of our campus community,” Burger said. “We will continue to create new ways to serve our students.”
