Meet Don Hoffmeyer. He's the coordinator for the Conasauga Drug Court, which serves Whitfield and Murray counties.
Hoffmeyer recently spoke to one of Dr. James Wright's criminal justice courses about drug court. Drug court allows addicts an opportunity to recover from their addictions in an effort to reduce repeated drug-related offenses.
This program isn't just a get out of jail free card. It's an intense outpatient recovery program focused on curing the person of addiction, not just helping them get clean.
Several Dalton State students intern with the drug court, and many criminal justice majors will enter a similar field.
Hoffmeyer is one of numerous guest speakers in criminal justice classes at Dalton State, which give students a chance to see what their options will be when they graduate with their degree.
