Peer Education
Peer Education (Formerly Tutoring and Supplemental Instruction) assists in developing the skills needed for students to become independent learners who grow personally and academically through knowledge sharing and peer facilitation (Reviewed and revised, 06/10/2021). Students receive assistance with course content, exam preparation, study skills, time management, personal finance skills, and more.
Peer Education includes the following areas: Tutoring, Supplemental Instruction, the Math & Science Learning Center, and the Financial Fitness Learning Center (coming Fall 2021).

Peer Tutoring Appointments
Do you want FREE, personalized academic assistance with your Dalton State courses? Peer tutoring appointments are available in the Dean of Students Office and online. Appointments are conducted one-on-one with a peer educator. We also offer appointments for study skills and time management tutoring as well. Click below to schedule your appointment today.

If you would like to schedule a consistent tutoring appointment with the same tutor and at the same time each week for the remainder of the semester, please visit the Dean of Students Office or email peereducation@daltonstate.edu.

Putting the Puzzle Pieces Together: A Study Skills Series
This 8-week peer-led program allows students to meet weekly to enhance study skills and time management. The program assists students in reaching their full potential and becoming more independent learners. Students will work one-on-one with a peer educator to create an individualized study and time management plan.
Topics Include: Note Taking Methods, Time Management, Test Taking Skills, The Psychology of Learning, and more!

The goals of the Math and Science Learning Center are to offer assistance, tutoring, and support for all levels of math and science courses; to assist students in preparation for end-of-term exams; and to provide assistance with mathematics for all subject areas throughout the College.
Services to Students
Mathematics and science assistance is available on a walk-in basis. Peer Educators staff the lab throughout the day. In addition, the Math Lab and Science Learning Center has software programs to help students prepare for end-of-term exams.
Hours for Fall & Spring Semester
Monday - Thursday: 8 a.m. - 8 p.m.
Hours for Summer Semester
Monday- Thursday: 8 a.m. - 8 p.m.
Note: The Math and Science Learning Center closes on the last day of finals each term.
One-on-one peer tutoring for math and science courses is also available in the Dean of Students Office by appointment.

Supplemental Instruction is a resource offered and available to any student registered in an SI-targeted course. SI sessions occur two times each week outside of scheduled class periods. SI Leaders are a great resource and are supportive peers. Attending SI sessions enables students to become immersed in the course content through group study sessions, group activities, and more.

Supplemental Instruction (SI) Effectiveness
The International Center for SI in Kansas City shows that students who regularly attend and participate in SI sessions enjoy pass rates up to 60% higher than their classmates who do not attend SI.
Supplemental Instruction Leaders have previously taken and excelled in a particular course and are hired to "retake" the course while acting as a model student in the classroom. The SI Leader plans and utilizes a variety of interactive learning methods to enforce course content and promote effective study habits with two weekly group study sessions outside of scheduled class periods each week.

Financial Fitness Learning Center (Opening Fall 2021)
The Financial Fitness Learning Center consists of staff and Peer Financial Fitness Coaches who engage students in financial wellness education and planning to prepare them with a solid foundation for remaining in college and a life-time of responsible financial decision-making. Whether students are looking to move out on their own, build credit, save money, or learn about student loans, we have it covered.
Our financial education efforts work in tandem with curriculum provided by the National Financial Educators Council. Our professional staff are Certified Financial Education Instructors who also work to extensively train our Peer Financial Fitness Coaches.

Individualized one-on-one Appointments with Peer Financial Fitness Coaches can be adapted to individual student interests and needs.
