Why did you choose Dalton State? I chose Dalton State partially because I had someone from DSC come speak to me and a group of other high school students on what makes Dalton State the best choice for further education. It was hearing that personal experience that got me connected. On top of that, it was the economical choice, and it was close to home.
What do you plan to do after graduation? After Dalton State, I plan on using my biology degree to further my education and go for a Doctorate of Occupational Therapy. I hope one day to be a practicing OT.
Who is/was your favorite professor and why? Out of the many professors who have had an impact on me here at Dalton State, Dr. David DesRochers has been one of my favorites and is one of my most trusted advisors. Dr. DesRochers is one of the most student-friendly professors I know; he is always there to help students out with anything. One of my favorite class memories was taking Conservation Biology outside and having class on the lawn. He’s taken some of my really bad papers, destroyed them with red ink, but they’ve come out beautiful on the other side. Thanks Dr. DesRochers!
What activities are you involved in on campus? One of the biggest opportunities I’ve had on campus is to be the historian and the president of Beta Chi Nu, the Dalton State chapter of Tri-Beta National Biology Honor Society. It’s been such an honor serving such a great group. Through BXN I also took on the role of student vice president of our district for Tri-Beta last year. It was an awesome opportunity representing our school out of so many schools in our district.
One of the best classroom experiences I’ve been involved in was the Human Dissection class with Dalton State’s first cadaver. The human body is so cool! I loved going to class every week to learn anatomy and physiology in such a practical hands-on way.
Where is your favorite hangout? One of my very favorite hangout spots is in a kayak on a creek somewhere. When the weather is warm, it’s where I’d probably rather be.
What is your best memory so far as part of the Roadrunner Nation? There’s so many to choose from! One thing that I would have never guessed I’d be a part of was getting the chance to be a princess for a day on this past year’s homecoming court. That was fun. It was such a pleasure representing Dalton State with such a great group of student leaders.
What is the last book you read? My biology textbooks, ha! Besides that though, I recently finished “The Screwtape Letters” by C.S.Lewis.
What’s on your iPad? The Amazon app, 3D brain app, Random Mahjong, Word Search, and lots of Switchfoot music.
Favorite comfort food? Southern food. Fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, cornbread, sweet tea, mac n cheese (since apparently in the south mac n cheese is considered a veggie), etc. Anything my mom makes.
If you could only keep five possessions, what would they be? My Bible, my favorite Switchfoot t-shirt, my best Columbia jacket, my favorite ring, and one of my special childhood stuffed animals.
If you won the lottery, what would you do? 1) I’d give 20 percent of the total to my church 2) then I’d put a share of it in an education fund for me and my brothers 3) I’d take my momma to Italy, buy my dad a Lexus, and my boyfriend Stephen an old Camaro 4) then I’d take myself to Scotland.
What is a skill you’d like to learn and why? Bass guitar. I’ve always kind of pictured myself in a band with my brothers one day where I would play bass; bassists are always chill.
What cheers you up? Something that can always put me in a better mood is my cats. One hug is all it takes.
Who is your hero? One of my huge ‘non-family-member’ heroes has to be Jon Foreman. Writer, surfer, singer, he is totally not afraid to be himself. He speaks up clearly of his passions and beliefs and makes me really want to do the same.
What is your favorite childhood memory? Christmas at Nanny and Papaw’s, and then the next day Christmas with Dad, Mom, and brothers. Christmas memories with my family have always been, and still are, some of my favorite.
Where is your favorite place to eat? St. John’s the Meeting Place in Chattanooga
What does it mean to you to be part of the Roadrunner Nation? My idea of college was so different than what I’ve experienced at Dalton State. Here I’m not just another face, name, or number. I know my professors and have talked to probably half of the student body at some point or another; I have very close-knit connections here. Not only that, but I’ve had so many opportunities that I couldn’t have gotten anywhere else, including being president of the Biology Honor Society, walking on homecoming court, doing research with some fancy gadgets in the amazing new science building, working with our very first cadaver, etc. Dalton State is preparing me for my future one classroom and one experience at a time. I’m very thankful to be a student at Dalton State and proud to be a Roadrunner.
