08/03/21

Students with associate degrees related to engineering technology or information technology from Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC) can now transfer into a related bachelor’s degree program at Dalton State more seamlessly after an agreement was signed between the two schools recently.

“This partnership between Dalton State and GNTC will help us better serve the students of our region while meeting local employers’ needs,” said Dr. Margaret Venable, president of Dalton State. “We are dedicated to creating a pipeline of graduates ready for today’s needs. It is a winning strategy for us all.”

Students who have completed a Networking Specialist Associate of Applied Science from GNTC will be able to transfer into the Bachelor of Applied Science in Information Technology from Dalton State. GNTC students who have completed an Associate of Applied Science in Automation Engineering Technology, Industrial Systems Technology or Instrumentation and Controls Technician will be able to transfer directly into Dalton State’s Bachelor of Applied Science in Engineering Technology program.

“The signing of these agreements provides additional opportunities for GNTC students and the ability for them to remain in our community to further their education,” said GNTC President Dr. Heidi Popham. “This partnership represents a continued collaboration between GNTC and Dalton State, focused on providing our citizens various educational pathways.”

Dalton State’s engineering technology program was designed by working primarily with Shaw Industries to address workforce needs.

“Students who graduate from Dalton State with either the engineering technology or information technology degree will be prepared for a career in a high demand field,” said Dr. Randall Griffus, dean of the School of Arts and Sciences. “Our students will receive relevant classroom instruction with state-of-the-art lab equipment, as well as have opportunities for internships and other real-world learning experiences.”
