Mountain Campus to Host Free Professional Workshops

Dalton State’s Mountain Campus in downtown Ellijay, Ga. will host a series of free professional workshops and speakers beginning this January. On the second Wednesday of each month from 3 to 4 p.m., a local small business owner will discuss how they got started, what they learned as an entrepreneur, what they wish they had known and tips for future entrepreneurs. They also will offer suggestions on what to know before starting and operating a small business including future trends, opportunities and challenges.Upcoming speakers include Beau Lowman, owner of BEAU-tiful Creations, Mr. And Mrs. Bramlett, owners of Sweet Cheeks BBQ, Gwen Hennessey, owner of BlueBird Nutrition and Paul Kiker owner of Kiker Wealth Management. Lauren Holverson from the Dalton Innovation Accelerator (DIA) will host a series of free small business workshops on the third Wednesday of each month from 3 to 4 p.m. The workshops begin this January and include Utilizing Technology and Computer Safety on Jan. 19, Crafting the Perfect Pitch on Feb. 16, Creating a Newsletter with MailChimp on March 15, Social Media Tools to Simplify and Amplify on April 20, and How to Generate Content for Your Small Business on May 13.

Other free workshops at the Mountain Campus include: ACT/SAT Prep Workshop on Feb. 8 from 4 to 5 p.m., Social Media Marketing for Business on April 5 from 1 to 2 p.m. and Resume/LinkedIn Workshop on April 12 from 3 to 4 p.m. Thomas Magnet will give a lecture on March 29 from 2 to 3 p.m. on his new Book “Ginseng Diggers: A History of Root and Herb Gathering in Appalachia” as well as host a book signing once he finishes his talk.

Dalton State’s Mountain Campus will also offer continuing and professional education (CPE) courses for a fee that individuals can register and pay for online at: https://daltonstate.coursestorm.com. Courses include Microsoft Excel Level 1, Excel Level 2, Word Level 1, Word Level 2, PowerPoint Level 1, English as a Second Language and American Sign Language. The courses can be helpful to individuals in their professional and personal life. 

These workshops, speakers, and continuing and professional education offerings are open to the public. All are encouraged to attend and check out the Mountain Campus. 

At the Mountain Campus students can complete core classes or an associate degree in ecotourism or entrepreneurship. The campus is here to provide resources, host events and support students, local businesses and the community.
