Dalton State to Perform The Curious Savage

Dalton State’s fall play should fill the audience with hope that kindness and affection can still be found in a world motivated by greed and dishonesty, the director said.

The Curious Savage by John Patrick is a comedy about a widow who has been left a hefty sum and her grown stepchildren’s effort to claim that money. It will be performed Wednesday, Nov. 14 through Saturday, Nov. 17 at 7:30 nightly at Southeast Whitfield High School. Tickets are $7 and can be purchased at the door or in advance at eventbrite.com. The show is free to those with a current Dalton State ID. The show is suitable for all ages.

“This show is a classic play that has charmed audiences for many years,” said director Kim Correll, lecturer in communication and theatre at Dalton State. “We have a talented cast for this show. People should come see this charming play that will make you laugh and cry.”

The play follows Ethel Savage, who has inherited $10 million following the death of her husband. She wants to make the best of the money, in spite of her stepchildren, who have her committed to a sanatorium hoping to “bring her to her senses.” In the facility, Savage meets various social misfits, who cannot adjust to life and people who need the help she’s able to provide.

The cast includes students, as well as faculty and staff: Jake Baker, Toni Bearden, Dezirea Beavers, Stephen Green, Madison Hammons, Laurie Raper, Nick Loboda, Danny Solorzano, Adrian Thompson, Kristen West, and Levi Witt. The stage manager is Christie Murphree, and costume design is by Laurie Raper.

The play is being performed at Southeast since Gignilliat Memorial Hall, which houses the College’s auditorium is being renovated for the Wright School of Business.
