Dalton State to ‘Roar into the 20’s’ for Homecoming 2020

01/15/20

Dalton State will soon kick off Homecoming 2020 “The Roaring 20’s” with events later this month.

The homecoming game will be Saturday, Feb. 1 at 2 p.m. in Bandy Gymnasium. The first 75 community members will receive a free homecoming T-shirt. Fans are encouraged to wear black in support of the Roadrunners for this game.

The homecoming game will feature the presentation and crowning of the court during halftime. There is another basketball game the week of homecoming, Thursday, Jan. 30 at 7:30 p.m. in Bandy Gymnasium. Tickets for both games are $5 for general admission.

Homecoming events start with the Third Annual Rage n’ Roar Bonfire on Wednesday, Jan. 29. This event will give the community a chance to meet the basketball players and hear from Coach Alex Ireland while celebrating the team, which is currently 16-1 and ranked No. 6 in the NAIA Division I Coaches’ Poll. There will also be snacks and refreshments. The event is free and open to the public.

Amber Lesicko, associate director of Student Life and chair of the homecoming committee, is excited to have Roadrunners “come home” to Bandy Gym for homecoming.

“Homecoming has become a tradition on campus that students look forward to year after year,” Lesicko said. “This year with our Roaring 20’s theme, we hope students will be excited to jump back in time for this homecoming celebration. The committee is excited for students to experience our speakeasy, Casino Night, Mafia, the BASH and our homecoming staples, which are open to the public, like the Rage n’ Roar Bonfire and Trivia at The Mill.”

A continuing event from last year is the trivia night at The Mill, at 825 Chattanooga Avenue in Dalton, starting at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 31. There will be six categories of general trivia questions with six questions per round. Team prize packets will be given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. This event is open to the public.

One of the highlights of homecoming is the service project put on by the court candidates. This year they will be hosting an event for Cross Plains Community Partner at Dalton State in the lower level of Pope Student Center. Volunteers will be working check-in, staffing various activity stations and socializing with the participants. Register to volunteer on this project on RoadrunnerServe. Community members are welcome to participate.
