Dalton State expands operating hours to better serve students and families

Dalton State College has updated its operating hours to enhance accessibility and support for current and prospective students and their families.

Dalton State’s main campus is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with some offices offering extended hours. Dalton State’s Mountain Campus in Ellijay is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Previously, the college’s campuses operated on an adjusted schedule, closing on Fridays in the summer and at noon during the fall and spring semesters.

“With steady enrollment increases across summer, spring and fall semesters, more and more students and their families need access to campus resources,” John Fuchko, president of Dalton State, said. “Whether students need help with admissions, financial matters, academic support or library resources, they can count on us being here.”

In addition to the college’s new business hours, other departments across campus offer additional extended hours to support student needs. The Peer Education Math and Science Learning Center is open until 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and offers flexible one-on-one peer tutoring sessions virtually after 6 p.m., depending on tutor availability. The advising center provides evening services by appointment.

Bandy Gymnasium offers extended hours Monday through Wednesday, providing student access to the fitness center, indoor walking track and basketball court until 7 p.m.

“While the Bandy Gymnasium is closed on the weekends, there are various other outdoor recreational opportunities that are available to students and community members,” Garrett Burgner, director of the Department of Health and Wellness, said. “We recently opened six new pickleball courts next to the intramural field on College Drive. We also have the Roadrunner Trail System behind campus that provides five miles of hiking trails.”

Dalton State College, a member of the University System of Georgia, serves more than 5,000 students in northwest Georgia and beyond through campuses in Dalton and Ellijay and online programs. The college offers 24 bachelor’s degree programs and an array of associate degree programs. To learn more about resources available at Dalton State, visit www.daltonstate.edu.
