?The BSW Program welcomes Chris Stephens as our guest lecturer for National Suicide Prevention Month. Chris Stephens is the Creative Specialist with Stop Soldier Suicide, the only national nonprofit focused on the issue of death by suicide among U.S. veterans and service members. He is also the founder of Miles for Mike. He is currently training for the upcoming Marine Corps Marathon to raise funds for Stop Soldier Suicide, as he walks every day to honor his brother, Mike, who died following his service in the U.S. Navy. From Stop Solider Suicide: Despite decades of effort, modern veteran suicide prevention practices fall short. The rate of U.S. veteran and service member deaths by suicide continues to increase. Suicide is a complex problem that disproportionately impacts the military community. Our team is laser-focused on care and research that is specific to reducing veteran and service member suicide. Our vision is a nation where veterans and service members have no greater risk for suicide than any other American. We have an aggressive goal to reduce the military suicide rate by 40% no later than 2030.?
