Camp to Allow Middle School Students to Experience College

Area middle schoolers will soon have the opportunity to experience a taste of college life.

Dalton State’s School of Education will host the second Dream Boldly Conference Monday, July 19 – Tuesday, July 20. It is a free overnight camp for underserved and economically challenged seventh- and eighth-grade students in the Whitfield County and Dalton Public School systems.

“This camp is great summer fun that allows students to explore and learn more about college life,” said Dr. Molly Zhou, associate professor of education and conference organizer. “We want to reach students early to show them college is a possibility. As a Hispanic-Serving Institution and as a college that serves a high number of first-generation college students, we think it is important to reach these students and show them what they can do. This is a time for them to dream boldly about college.”

Students will stay in on-campus housing, visit classrooms and labs, hike the Roadrunner Trail System and more.

The camp was canceled last year due to the pandemic. The annual science camps at Dalton State have been canceled this year due to the pandemic.
