Dalton State College remains a standout in Wall Street Journal Best Colleges rankings for student experience and value

Posted on

Dalton State continues to rank among the top 10% best colleges in the nation for Student Experience, standing out as No. 1 among public colleges in Georgia, according to The Wall Street Journal/College Pulse 2026 Best Colleges in the U.S. rankings released today.

“Dalton State’s continued recognition for student experience affirms the strength of our campus community and the intentional support we provide every student,” said Dalton State President John Fuchko. “We are proud to be a place where students feel supported and empowered to succeed, both during their time on campus and as they transition into careers and life after graduation.”

The 2026 Best Colleges ranking rated 584 of the top colleges and universities across the nation. Dalton State ranked 28 overall for student experience, improving three spots over last year.

The student experience ranking is based on three categories – campus facilities, community and diversity on campus. Each category accounted for one-third of the overall ranking score.

Dalton State also ranked No. 2 in Georgia for best value, climbing two spots to No. 65 overall. This ranking reflects the college’s affordability and return on investment for graduates.

Dalton State has consistently ranked among the top 10% most affordable public four-year colleges in the nation, with an annual net price of $5,083 for the 2022–23 financial aid year, according to data from the U.S. Department of Education’s College Affordability and Transparency Center.

“Fewer than 20% of our students graduate with student loan debt, which speaks volumes about our commitment to affordability,” Fuchko said. “We believe cost should never be a barrier to opportunity, and Dalton State remains focused on delivering a high-quality education that’s accessible and leads to meaningful, long-term success.”

Dalton State serves more than 5,500 students through campuses in Dalton and Ellijay and online. The college offers 24 bachelor’s degree programs and seven associate degrees.
