Dalton State offers free tax preparation services through March 14

Posted on

Student and alumni volunteers from Dalton State College’s Wright School of Business are providing free IRS-certified state and federal tax preparation services to members of the community with low to moderate income.

Volunteers will provide services on the Dalton State campus in Gignilliat Hall, room 101 A/B, Mondays through Wednesdays from 2 to 4:30 p.m., Fridays from 5 to 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. now through March 14.

These services are part of the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, which is supported by Dalton State College and the Wright School of Business. Nearly 40 business students will gain hands-on learning this tax season volunteering through the program, reflecting Dalton State’s emphasis on experiential educational opportunities.

“The VITA program has enabled students to develop their confidence and build their business communication skills as they work with clients on their tax returns,” said Jamie Connors, associate dean of the Wright School of Business. “This program illustrates the positive relationship between the college and the community, where students gain invaluable experience while providing a vital service. It’s a true win-win situation that strengthens both the community and the student experience.”

This year marks the 15th year business students at Dalton State College have volunteered to serve the community through the VITA program. In 2025, volunteers completed and filed more than 400 tax returns from late January through mid-March.
