Dalton State Website Can be Translated into Other Languages

Posted on

Dalton State’s website can now be translated into five other languages besides English to better support students and their families.

Though students must be proficient in English to be accepted at Dalton State, providing the website translation will help increase communication to students and their families in a language they may be more comfortable reading.

“This allows us to increase our support for students because valuable information on our website can now be accessed in a variety of languages,” said Brooklyn Herrera, assistant director of Tutoring and Supplemental Instruction. “This translation tool will help us better disseminate information to the Spanish-speaking community in Northwest Georgia, as well. We hope high school students and their parents will now have greater access to important admission and student support information, including learning about ways they can get involved on campus.”

The translation tool was funded by a Title V grant that was awarded to Dalton State because of its status as a Hispanic-Serving Institution, a federal designation given to colleges where at least 25% of the student population is Hispanic. Dalton State is currently at 33%.

The $2.1 million grant has been used for several projects aimed at increasing student support for all students and includes additional resources in areas such as tutoring and advising. It is also funding Grammarly, a digital writing assistant, campus wide.

The website can now be read in Spanish, Urdu, Korean, Hindi and French, as well as English.
