Dalton State College named a “2024 Great College to Work For”

Posted on

Dalton State College is one of the best colleges in the nation to work for, according to the Great Colleges to Work For® program. The results, released today in a special insert of The Chronicle of Higher Education, are based on a survey of 216 colleges and universities. Dalton State is the only public college in Georgia on the 2024 list.

“This is a wonderful affirmation of Dalton State College’s workplace culture and our commitment to our students,” said Dalton State President John Fuchko. “We strive to be a community that values the needs and contributions of every individual. In that sense, everyone at Dalton State helps to make this a great place to work.”

This honor puts Dalton State in elite company. Only 75 of the 216 institutions surveyed achieved “Great College to Work For” recognition for specific best practices and policies. Results are reported for small, medium, and large institutions, with Dalton State College included among the medium universities with 3,000 to 9,999 students.

Dalton State College won honors in five categories:

  • Mission & Pride
  • Faculty & Staff Well-being
  • Professional Development
  • Confidence in Senior Leadership
  • Supervisor/Department Chair Effectiveness

In addition, Dalton State was one of only 42 institutions named to the Great Colleges Honor Roll, a distinction that goes to the top 10 four-year colleges recognized the greatest number of times in each size category. This is the first time Dalton State has been recognized with Honor Roll distinction. Dalton State was recognized in two categories in 2020.

The survey results are based on a two-part assessment process: an institution questionnaire that captures employment data and workplace policies from each institution, and a survey administered to faculty, administrators, and professional support staff. The primary factor in deciding whether an institution received recognition was the employee feedback.

“There can be no doubt the stresses and challenges facing higher education today are collectively unprecedented. And it seems as if there’s some new threat emerging on a weekly basis. But in this moment, in the 2024 Great Colleges to Work For awardees, we have examples of institutions that have navigated these tumultuous times holding true to their missions and values and never losing sight of the importance of their people,” said Richard K. Boyer, Chief Culture Strategist at ModernThink.

The Great Colleges to Work For® program is one of the largest and most respected workplace-recognition programs in the country. ModernThink, a strategic human capital consulting firm, administered the survey and analyzed the results.
