Organization advisors serve as mentors, consultants, and institutional resources for student organizations. Advisors support leadership development, organizational continuity, financial responsibility, and compliance with college policies.
To remain active, advisors must complete the Advisor Agreement Form during each transition period and fulfill Campus Security Authority (CSA) responsibilities as required by the Clery Act. Advisor’s responsibilities include:
Consultation
- Attend meetings or events when appropriate.
- Meet officers to discuss goals, activities, and finances.
- Interpret College policy, guidelines, and procedures.
- Assist with understanding the organization’s constitution and bylaws.
- Connect organizations with campus resources and support.
Leadership Development
- Encourage communication among officers and members
- Help students strengthen leadership, planning, and organizational skills
- Promote a positive balance between academics and involvement
Financial Direction
- Assist officers with budget awareness and financial responsibility
- Help organizations follow College purchasing and funding procedures
Continuity
- Help transition and train new officers.
- Encourage goal setting and long-term planning.
- Support officers in the annual transition paperwork process – advisors cannot do it for them.
- Advise group to report change of officers’ or members to the Office of Student Engagement and Belonging in a timely manner.
