Student organizations are an important part of the Dalton State experience. They provide opportunities for students to build community, develop leadership skills, explore interests, and contribute to campus life. Student organizations are student-led and student-managed while operating within the policies and expectations of Dalton State College.
Organizations are expected to:
- Operate in alignment with their stated purpose and mission
- Practice responsible leadership and sound organizational management
- Follow their organization constitution and democratic processes
- Comply with Dalton State College policies and procedures
Membership in registered student organizations is open to all regularly enrolled Dalton State students. No student may be excluded from membership or leadership based on race, color, religion, national origin, age, gender (unless exempt under Title IX), sexual orientation, disability, or veteran status. Organizations may limit membership based on legally protected religious, political, or other First Amendment-supported beliefs consistent with applicable law.
To become officially recognized, student organizations must:
- Have a Dalton State faculty or staff advisor
- Complete the registration process through the Office of Student Engagement & Belonging
- Receive approval from the Student Organization Committee (SOC)
The Office of Student Engagement & Belonging and organization advisors are available to support and guide student organizations; however, the responsibility for the organization’s success and conduct ultimately belongs to its student members.
