Inherent in collegiate recognition of student organizations is the obligation of each organization to conduct activities in accordance with college rules and policies and with applicable laws. Registered student organizations are required to comply with the written rules and policies of Dalton State.
It is the responsibility of the officers of each organization to ensure that the organization complies with the Student Code of Conduct and to actively oppose and prevent any planned organizational activity that may violate the Code. It is also the obligation of the officers to advise and counsel individual members of their organization whose conduct could lead to misconduct charges against the organization.
Record Keeping: FERPA & Student Organizations
Dalton State College and its Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) are expected to respect and protect the privacy of student educational records in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Student educational and disciplinary records are considered confidential and may not be disclosed or shared without appropriate authorization except as permitted by law or institutional policy.
Student organization officers, advisors, and members may have access to limited student information through institutional systems, rosters, event participation records, or organization management platforms. This information should only be used for legitimate organization-related purposes and may not be distributed, shared publicly, or used for unauthorized communication, solicitation, or commercial purposes.
Questions regarding FERPA, student privacy rights, or the release of student information should be directed to the appropriate institutional office. Title IX and Student Organizations
Dalton State College is committed to maintaining a learning, living, and working environment free from sex discrimination, sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, dating and domestic violence, stalking, retaliation, and other forms of prohibited conduct under Title IX and applicable institutional policies.
Registered Student Organizations (RSOs), their members, advisors, and guests are expected to conduct themselves in a manner consistent with Title IX, the Student Code of Conduct, and all applicable institutional and University System of Georgia policies. Student organizations may not engage in, encourage, condone, or ignore behavior that creates a hostile environment or discriminates on the basis of sex or gender.
Concerns involving sexual misconduct, harassment, discrimination, retaliation, dating or domestic violence, stalking, or related behaviors should be reported to the appropriate institutional officials. Reports involving student organizations or organization-sponsored activities may result in both individual and organizational review or conduct action.
