Your organization’s constitution serves as the foundation for how the group operates, makes decisions, and maintains accountability. It should clearly outline the purpose, structure, leadership roles, membership expectations, meeting procedures, finances, and amendment process for the organization.

All student organizations are required to maintain a local constitution, even if affiliated with a national organization. Download this detailed Constitution Template and Guide to help organizations develop their constitution. This template is already set to meet campus accessibility requirements.

It is strongly recommended that the constitution at minimum includes the following:

  1. Organization Name & Affiliations
  2. Purpose & Goals
  3. Membership Requirements
  4. Officer Roles & Elections
  5. Advisor Information
  6. Meetings & Quorum
  7. Finances & Transparency
  8. Amendments & Bylaws

Organizations should submit any constitutional updates to the Office of Student Engagement & Belonging for review and approval.
